Jonathan Davies MBE, How do you feel about having a New Zealander in charge of the Welsh National team and do you think there are any Welsh Coaches out there who are better qualified for the job?

I’m sure that some of the Welsh coaches could have done it. I don’t think that there is much difference between the coaches. For me what makes a good coach is good players. He’s (Gatland) not going to have much different to work with and so he’ll add a little bit. But I think what he’s good at, and what Gareth Jenkins was good at, you know he sorted out the lineout for Llanelli. But I think we played the wrong tactics in the World Cup, that was our main downfall. But I think that maybe the timing wasn’t right for some of the Welsh coaches. I think in the short-term Gatland will be very good. I think that the performance (factor/vector) is more important, allowing the vital changes … to bring more players through.
