Carol Barbone, Aren't the local objections to the expansion of stansted airport just another example of "nimbyism" ?

Answer

There's only one back yard so far as global warming is concerned so the 'Nimby' argument hardly applies.

sunnyday at Dec 04 2007 12:00:00 AM Many Thanks for taking the time to answer my question Carol. However, i feel your answer is a little disingenuous at the least. This extract comes from your SSE Website: "Locally, the environmental impacts of a second runway would be devastating. It would result in the destruction of communities that have developed over centuries as well as vast swathes of unspoilt countryside and ancient woodlands and the loss of homes. BAA's proposed 486 hectare land grab for a second runway would create an airport site bigger than Heathrow and requiring the bulldozing of: * 73 homes, including 18 listed buildings * 4 county wildlife sites * 21 hectares* of woodland * 386 hectares* of special landscape value * 47 hectares* of high quality landscape character area * 5.2km of rivers " No mention there of global warming.
