Question

  1. Brian Cowen, Mr Cowen,
You have been finance minister in Ireland over a period of years in which the country has achieved extraordinary prosperity. Yet you have done nothing with the prosperity about which you constantly boast. Our public services are a shambles. In particular, our education system is shamefully underfunded. We spend only 4.6% of GDP on education. The OECD average is 6.1%, while Iceland and Israel spend 8%.
Can you tell me why you think it is a good idea to spend so little on learning?
