The Archbishop of Canterbury’s recent comments about the possibility of the UK adopting some Sharia Law seem to have rapidly elevated him to the position of Public Enemy number one.

In a recent Daily Mail poll 62% of people thought that Dr. Rowan Williams posed a bigger threat to Britain’s way of life than Muslim Cleric Abu Hamza.
 

This was a recent headline from The Sun newspaper: “Do the Lambeth walk Williams.”
 

Public figures from both the Christian and Muslim camps are queueing up to add their voice to the protests: Geoff Hoon, Khalid Mahmood, David Blunkett, Nick Clegg, Professor Tariq Ramadan and Culture Secretary Andy Burnham to name but a few.
 

But is this level of criticism justified? What is the Archbishop actually suggesting? Could Sharia Law work alongside our current system?
